37. Antimetabole
My sentence:
Yet again the Israelis and Palestinians break our hearts. Generations of hatred have once more exploded into violence, and the violence, like a malevolent fuel, further feeds the ever-growing hatred.
Other examples:
"They are us, we are them."
From Mission to Mars, a real sleeper of a science fiction movie ... but I liked this sentence. The character is talking about aliens who "seeded" Earth millions of years ago, and is the movie's explanation as to why, about 100 million years ago, life on earth seemed to increase exponentially. My guess is that scientists would proffer a slightly different theory!
I believe that it is only the nature of personal pronouns that keep this sentence from being a hard and fast example of antimetabole. After all, they are them, and us are we. (I probably should be shot for having written that last sentence!)
