6. The Simple Sentence - Interruption
My sentence:
She danced, in non-stop succession, the mamba, the two-step, and a hip-swinging hustle.
Other examples:
"He was, on the whole, a clean and comely looking cannibal."
Herman Melville, Moby Dick the Great Whale
Early in the story, Ishmael begins to enjoy the company of the harpooner Queequeg, and changes his original impression.
"Did you, during all this running, run for a doctor?"
Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
This is a very simple example of a simple sentence with interruption. I like it,
however, because it includes both alliteration, "Did, during and doctor," as well
as anadiplosis, ending one prepositional phrase with "running" and beginning the
verbal phrase with "run."
