17. Representative Series Sentence - Three Part

My sentence:

To be a good wife, to be a good mother, but before anything else, to be true to myself - these forged the framework of my central vision.

Other Examples:

"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she has to walk into mine."

Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca

"Do good, receive good, and be honored as the good are honored."

Aeschylus, Eumenides

Having passed judgement in favor of Orestes, Athena explains to the Chorus of Eumenides that they will still have a place of honor, even if they can no longer judge cases of murder and blasphemy. (Thank you Dr. Carroll!)

This is a slight variation on the three-part repetition, but the word good is used three times; the word honored twice, all in a relatively short sentence.

"As Ferris closed the address book, he suffered a sense of hazard, transience, almost of fear."

Carson McCullers, "The Sojourner"

Ferris suffers the sense of time lost, brought on by old memories dredged from perusing his address book.

"Come and listen to my story 'bout a man named Jed,

A poor mountaineer barely kept his family fed,

And then one day he was shooting at some food

When up through the ground came a bubblin' crude --

Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea."

Paul Henning, creator of The Beverly Hillbillies, also wrote the theme song.

Three other names for "bubblin' crude" are given. This is stretching it, but it was too much fun to leave out!
